Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga. – The nationally 16th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team garnered a 65-55 road victory over Armstrong Atlantic State in Peach Belt Conference women's basketball action at Alumni Arena.
USC Aiken (17-3, 10-2 PBC) concluded its second win of the 2011-12 season over Armstrong shooting 46.2 percent (24-for-52) as a team. Armstrong (12-9, 6-7 PBC) ended its loss to the Pacers shooting 42.0 percent (21-for-50) as a team.
The Pacers were a perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line on Saturday.
Both Kayla Harris (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) and Hannah DeGraffinreed (Raleigh, N.C./Merrimack College) concluded USC Aiken's win with over 20 points. It marked the first time that two Pacers had scored over 20 or more in the same game since the same duo scored over 20 each in then No. 18 USC Aiken's 74-66 victory over Francis Marion on Jan. 12, 2011.
Harris' 23 points in USC Aiken's 10-point win over Armstrong on Saturday marked her fifth 20 or more point effort of the 2011-12 regular season.
Harris was 9-for-13 from the field in total. She was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.
DeGraffinreed just missed on a double-double with 20 points and eight rebounds. DeGraffinreed was 7-of-12 from the field in the game. She was 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
The tandem of Harris and DeGraffinreed were the only two to secure double figures in the game for USC Aiken, but Daniela Tarailo (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) just missed on a double-double of her own with nine points and nine boards.
Karolina Rykowska was the only Armstrong player to finish in double figures. She ended her evening with 13 points.
The two teams played close for the first almost 15 minutes of the game with the contest tied at 18-all with 5:52 remaining in the first half of action.
USC Aiken would then close the first half on a 16-5 run to take an 11-point 34-23 lead into intermission.
In the second half, Armstrong would not be able to really get much closer. The Pacers would lead by as many as 16 points in the second stanza before settling on the 10-point win.
USC Aiken will next travel to Greenwood, S.C. for a top-20 Peach Belt Conference East Division showdown with Lander on Wednesday, Feb. 8. The game between the 16th-ranked Pacers and the 19th-ranked Bearcats is slated to tip off at 5:30 p.m.
