Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga. – The nationally 24th-ranked
University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team picked up
a dominating 85-59 road victory over Armstrong Atlantic State in
Peach Belt Conference men's basketball action at Alumni Arena.
USC Aiken (16-4, 10-2 PBC) concluded its second win over
Armstrong (10-11, 6-7 PBC) of the year on Saturday shooting a
season-best 57.7 percent (30-for-52) as a team.
The Pacer defense in turn held Armstrong to just 36.5 percent
(19-for-52) shooting as a team.
Three Pacers finished in double figures with both Ronald Zimmerman
and Maurice
Hubbard ending their efforts with 17 points.
Hubbard (Centreville,Va./Ball State) had a stacked stat sheet,
as he was 6-for-7 from the floor and 5-of-7 from the free throw
line. He also had four rebounds, two blocks, one assist and one
steal.
Zimmerman (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley) was 6-for-11 from the
floor. He hit three 3-pointers in the contest.
Rick
Alderman (Roanoke, Va./Concord) was the final Pacer to score in
double figures. Alderman, who had 16 points in the game, was
7-for-10 from the floor. He also had five rebounds and two
assists.
Joel
Gierbolini (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Long Island) just missed on a
double-double for USC Aiken in the game. He had a Pacer season-high
and career-high 16 rebounds to go along with nine points, four
assists and two steals.
Three Armstrong players ended the game in double figures with
Aric Miller leading the way with 13 points.
The score tied at 23-23 with 7:48 remaining in the first half,
USC Aiken proceeded to go on a 17-3 run over the next almost five
minutes to own a 14-point 40-26 lead with 2:53 remaining in the
first stanza.
The 17-3 spurt was punctuated by two consecutive 3-pointers from
Terrance
Dent (Laramie, Wy. /Laramie CC).
USC Aiken concluded the first half of action shooting 51.9
percent (14-for-27) from the field as a team.
The Pacers commenced the second half on a 13-4 run to own a
19-point lead at 55-36 with 13:57 left to play in the game.
USC Aiken would add to its onslaught down the stretch en route
to its 26-point win.
USC Aiken will next travel to Greenwood, S.C. for a Peach Belt
Conference East Division game with Lander on Wednesday, Feb. 8. The
game is scheduled to tip off at approximately 7:30 p.m.
