Pacers Split With Georgia College on Saturday

AIKEN, S.C. - The nationally 29th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader with Georgia College on Saturday at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.

Georgia College (8-6, 1-1 PBC) earned a 7-5 win in game one before the Pacers took a 5-1 victory in the second game.

The rubber game in the Peach Belt Conference three-game series is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26 at the 'Bert.

In the first game, Nick Aranas (Lexington, S.C./Lexington) started things off quite nicely for the Pacers with a home run in the bottom of the first inning.

USC Aiken (8-3, 3-2 PBC) plated two more runs in the bottom of the next frame to take a 3-0 lead.

Georgia College would take the game over in the fourth and fifth innings with a combined six runs that claimed a 6-3 lead for the Bobcats. They would add one more in the top of the seventh.

The Pacers mounted a rally in the bottom of the ninth, but it would not be enough in the game one loss to Georgia College.

Georgia College barely out-hit the Pacers in game one, 11-10.

Three Pacers recorded multiple hits in game one with Tyler Bourdo (Evans, Ga./Truett-McConnell) leading the way. Bourdo was 3-for-4 with a run scored in the game.

Josh Miller (Chapin, S.C./Chapin) and Aranas both ended game one with two hits. Aranas had two RBIs and a run scored, while Miller scored a run.

Travis Echols and Cody Maas both led Georgia College in game one with each posting three hits.

Derek Beasley (Harlem, Ga./Harlem) suffered the loss on the hill for USC Aiken in the contest. Beasley (2-1) fanned five in 4.1 innings on the mound.

Georgia College's Derek McGowan (2-2) pitched eight innings in claiming the win on the hill. He struck out three.

Matt Lamothe picked up the save by getting the final two outs of the game for Georgia College.

In the second game, USC Aiken was down 1-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Pacers turned things around in the game by scoring three in the bottom of the stanza to take a 3-1 lead.

One inning later in the bottom of the seventh, Aranas belted his second dinger of the day to give the Pacers a 4-1 lead. USC Aiken would add one more in the bottom of the eighth.

Wyatt Brown (Suwanee, Ga./Middle Georgia) dealt the first seven innings of the contest to claim the win. Brown (3-0) fanned nine in his seven innings on the hill.

Jake Padgett (Gilbert, S.C./Gilbert) then pitched the final two innings for the Pacers to acquire his second save of the year. He allowed just one hit and fanned two.

Mike Guinane suffered the loss on the hill for Georgia College. He pitched the first six innings, striking out five, but allowing three runs.

Georgia College out-hit USC Aiken, 12-7, in game two.

Aranas led the Pacers in game two, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Miller was the only other Pacer to finish with multiple hits, as he ended Saturday's second game with two hits.
