PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team opened Peach Belt Conference play in the 2012 season with a 6-3 road victory over UNC Pembroke on Thursday afternoon at the UNCP Varsity Tennis Courts.
The win snapped a two-match losing streak for USC Aiken (3-2, 1-0 PBC).
The Pacers opened Wednesday's match by claiming wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
The USC Aiken tandem of Margot Simon (Nantes, France/St. Joseph de Loquidy) and Manon Hermens (Bordeaux, France/Universitè de Bordeaux) acquired a win at No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 win over UNCP's No. 1 tandem of Mia Winterbottom and Hannah Herlocker.
USC Aiken's Julie Maline (Amiens, France/Lycée Louis Thuillier) and Caitlyn Lawrence (Barrie, Ontario/Barrie North Collegiate) obtained an 8-5 win over UNCP's Madeline DiNunzio and Monica Espitia at No. 3 doubles.
UNC Pembroke (2-3, 0-2 PBC) was able to take the first two singles flights, but the Pacers acquired wins at No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to collect the 6-3 team win.
The USC Aiken men (3-0) and women will next tangle with Francis Marion at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26 at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex.
