AUGUSTA, Ga. – Four University of South Carolina Aiken
women's basketball players were selected to the 2011-12 Peach
Belt Conference Women's Basketball All-Academic Team.
The four Pacers selected to the PBC All-Academic Team were Mia
Antoine (Madison, Wis./Edgewood HS), Brittany Bowen (Ellicot City,
Md./Mt. Hebron HS), Porsha Martin (Douglasville, Ga./South Paulding
HS) and Daniela Tarailo (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point
HS).
Tarailo garners the honor for the second year in a row.
Antoine is currently averaging 4.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per
game for the Pacers. She has started in 24 of USC Aiken's 25
games in the 2011-12 season. Antoine scored a career-high 13 points
in USC Aiken's home win over Georgia Southwestern on Monday,
Jan. 23.
In the classroom, Antoine owns a 3.799 grade point average as a
Communications major.
Bowen is averaging 3.0 points and 1.3 rebounds per game for the
Pacers this season. She has played in 20 games for USC Aiken this
season.
In the classroom, Bowen owns a 3.387 grade point average as an
Exercise and Sports Science major.
Martin has appeared in 23 games for USC Aiken this season. She
is averaging 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds per game.
In the classroom, Martin owns a 3.446 grade point average as a
Biology major.
Tarailo is averaging 9.8 points per game for USC Aiken in the
2011-12 season. She has scored in double figures 16 times this
season.
Tarailo has knocked down a team-best 47 3-pointers this
year.
In the classroom, Tarailo owns a 3.354 grade point average as a
Biology major.
The Peach Belt Conference Women's Basketball All-Academic
Team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding
accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as
on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a
student-athlete must have 1) participated in at least half of
his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant
contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on
a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at
his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports
Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 30 NCAA
Division II National Championships. The league features 13 member
institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida
and Alabama that compete in 13 championship sports. The 2011-12
members are Augusta State University, Armstrong Atlantic State
University, Clayton State University, Columbus State University,
Flagler College, Francis Marion University, Georgia College,
Georgia Southwestern State University, Lander University,
University of Montevallo, North Georgia College & State
University, University of North Carolina at Pembroke and the
University of South Carolina Aiken.
