HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The nationally
15th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken golf team
will commence its 2012 spring campaign on Monday and Tuesday at the
Seventh Annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate.
The event begins with 36 holes on Monday, Feb. 20. The final day
on Tuesday, Feb. 21 will feature 18 holes. Both days will begin
with 8:30 a.m. shotgun starts.
The Wexford Plantation course, which
underwent extensive renovations in 2011 (overseen by the Arnold
Palmer Design Company), measures 6,828 yards and is a par 72
layout.
This year's field includes host Francis
Marion, Davidson, DePaul, Elon, Furman, Georgia State, Hartford,
Louisville, Marshall, Ohio, Presbyterian, Radford, Richmond,
Samford, USC Aiken, Western Carolina and William & Mary.
The Pacers are two-time winners (2006 and 2009) of the Wexford
Plantation Intercollegiate.
USC Aiken finished its 2011 fall campaign with two second place
finishes as a team. USC Aiken's strong fall was punctuated by
the Pacers being ranked No. 1 in the country in the first GolfStat
rankings of the 2011-12 season on Sept. 29, 2011.
