CHARLOTTE – The regionally 10th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team stayed perfect on the 2012 season with a 6-3 victory over regionally ninth-ranked Queens on Friday afternoon at Freedom Park.
The USC Aiken women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the year on Friday at Freedom Park with a 6-3 loss to the regionally 10th-ranked Queens women.
The Pacer men (3-0) started Friday's match by earning victories over Queens (3-2) at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
USC Aiken acquired wins at No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to claim the 6-3 team victory. Bruno Orlandini (Araraquara, SP, Brazil/Longwood) collected the biggest win in singles on the day for USC Aiken with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles over Queens' Raahil Dhruva.
The Pacer women (2-1) dropped two of the three doubles matches with USC Aiken's only win coming at No. 3 doubles.
Margot Simon (Nantes, France/St. Joseph de Loquidy) at No. 1 singles and Gina Kothari (Leicester, England/Dixie Grammar School) at No. 6 singles claimed singles victories on Friday for USC Aiken, but it would not be enough to allow the Pacers to obtain the overall team victory over Queens (4-1).
The USC Aiken men and women will next close out their week against Limestone in Gaffney, S.C. on Sunday, Feb. 19. Things are slated to get underway at 2 p.m.
