Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – Down by as many as 15 in the game, the
nationally 20th-ranked University of South Carolina
Aiken men's basketball team garnered a come-from-behind 81-78 Peach
Belt Conference victory over UNC Pembroke at the Convocation Center
on Saturday evening.
Down by 11 at 64-55 with 6:03 to play in the game, USC Aiken
(17-5, 11-3 PBC) would outscore UNC Pembroke, 26-14, over the
course of the final six minutes to secure the victory.
The Pacers would tie the game at 70-all after two Jesse Seilern free
throws with 2:31 remaining in the game.
A little while later, UNC Pembroke (14-10, 8-6 PBC) owned a
two-point advantage at 74-72 with 1:21 on the game clock.
Seilern (Innsbruck, Austria/Kapfenberg HS) would the give the
Pacers their first lead of the second half at 75-74 with a
three-pointer from the right corner with 49 seconds left in the
game.
The Pacers would never trail again in its eventual three-point
win.
Five Pacers in total finished in double figures in the game with
Ronald
Zimmerman (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley HS) and Re'mon
Nelson (Columbus, Ohio/Canal Winchester HS) tying for game-high
honors with each posting 15 points. Nelson also had three assists
and two steals.
Zimmerman, who was 4-for-6 from beyond the arc in the game,
had two steals and an assist.
Seilern ended his night with 12 points to go along with his
game-winning trey.
Sterling
Council (Camden, S.C./Camden HS) dealt out six assists in the
contest to go along with his 11 points.
Jeremiah
Pojah (Houston, Texas /East Texas Baptist) was the final Pacer
in double figures. He just missed on a double-double in the game
with 10 points and nine rebounds (four offensive). He was a perfect
4-for-4 from the free throw line.
UNC Pembroke had three players secure double figures in the game
with Shahmel Bracket leading all players in the game with 24
points.
USC Aiken shot 45.3 percent (24-for-53) as a team in the game.
UNC Pembroke was basically even in the category with the Pacers,
shooting 45.2 percent (28-for-62).
The Pacers will next hit the road to square off against rival
Augusta State in Augusta, Ga. on Wednesday, Feb. 15. The game is
scheduled to get underway at approximately 7:30 p.m.
