Box Score EVANS, Ga. – The eighth-seeded University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team closed out its tremendous run in the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Tournament with a 4-1 championship game loss to second-seeded Montevallo.
The championship game victory allowed Montevallo (13-4-2) to acquire its second Peach Belt Conference Tournament title in the last three years. USC Aiken (6-6-6) was vying for its first-ever tournament crown in the match.
The Pacers have now been to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship game two times (2006 and 2012).
USC Aiken was the first-ever No. 8 seed to make an appearance in a Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship game.
Gary O'Neill started the game off for Montevallo by scoring in the seventh-minute. He headed in a free kick from Shane Howard.
The Pacers would even the game at 1-1 just before halftime when Noel Mais (Atlanta, Ga./Kingston College) blasted a shot from 25 yards out off the left post into the back of the net in the 40th-minute.
After an hour-long break for halftime and a lightning delay, Montevallo took control of the match in the 57th-minute when Pierre Omanga scored the first of his two penalty kick goals in the second half.
Pedro Carneiro then gave the Falcons a 3-1 lead in the 64th-minute when he scored off an assist from Howard.
Omanga scored the final goal of the evening off a penalty kick at the 67:50 mark.
Montevallo ended the match owning a slight 16-14 shot advantage. The Pacers owned an 8-7 corner kick advantage in the match.
