Pacers Set School-Record for 3-Point Field Goal Percentage in Upset of 15th-Ranked Winston-Salem State

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team set a school-record by shooting 73.7 percent from beyond the arc in a 98-84 upset victory over No. 15 Winston-Salem State on Monday evening at the Convocation Center. 

USC Aiken (2-0) connected on 14 of its 19 3-point attempts in Monday's victory over the Rams. The 3-point field goal percentage in the game bested the original school record of 70.6 percent set in a Pacer contest with Columbus State on Jan. 4, 1992. 

The Pacers finished the contest shooting 61.2 percent (30-for-49) from the field overall. USC Aiken held Winston-Salem State (1-2) to just 41.8 percent (23-for-55) shooting on the evening. 

USC Aiken has now won a school-record 17 straight regular-season home games. 

The two teams battled back and forth in the first half on Monday with the lead changing hands seven times. The Pacers would eventually take control in the latter minutes of the first half, going ahead by 11 with 2:53 to go until intermission.

The second half would be all Pacers though with USC Aiken going on top by as many as 17 before the two teams settled on a 14-point Pacer victory.

Ronald Zimmerman (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley HS) led five Pacers in double-figures in the game with a career-high 28 points. Zimmerman knocked down a career-best seven 3-pointers en route to the 28 points. He was 9-of-14 from the field overall. 

Jesse Seilern (Innsbruck, Austria/Kapfenberg HS) claimed 19 points in the win over Winston-Salem State. For the second straight game, Seilern hit over 10 free throws in a game. After knocking down 10 in USC Aiken's season-opening win over Voorhees, Seilern closed out the Winston-Salem State victory by hitting 11 of his 12 free throw attempts. 

USC Aiken's Kinley Branch (Stone Mountain, Ga./Arkansas State) was a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. He finished the Pacer win with 16 points.

Pacer forward Santoine Butler (Augusta, Ga./Gardner-Webb) ended his evening with 14 points to go along with a game-high seven rebounds and four blocks.

The final Pacer in double-figures was Re'mon Nelson (Columbus, Ohio/Canal Winchester HS), who ended his efforts on the evening with a double-double with 12 points and 11 assists. The 11 assists were just two off the school-record of 13. 

Four Rams finished in double figures in the game with Wykevin Bazemore and Tyre Desmore leading the way with 13 points each. 

USC Aiken and Winston-Salem State, who met for the first time ever on Monday, will next renew acquaintances in Winston-Salem, N.C. on Wednesday, Nov. 28. Tip-off in the contest is slated for 7 p.m.
