Second Half Surge Leads Fifth-Ranked Pacers to Victory Over Wingate

AIKEN, S.C. – Four Pacers finished in double figures as the nationally fifth-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team stayed perfect on the young 2012-13 season with a 72-49 win over Wingate at the Convocation Center on Wednesday evening. 

The Pacers are now 26-0 over the last three seasons when holding their foes to under 50 points. 

USC Aiken (2-0) finished its win over the 2012 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional finalist Bulldogs shooting 46.2 percent (30-for-65) as a team. The Pacer defense held Wingate to just 37.8 percent (17-for-45) shooting as a team. 

The Pacers knocked down 43.8 percent (7-for-16) of their 3-point attempts in the contest. 

Daniela Tarailo (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point HS) nailed five of USC Aiken's seven treys in the game en route to claiming a game-best 19 points. Tarailo acquired 16 of her 19 points in the second stanza.

In total, four Pacers finished in double-figures in the 23-point win over Wingate (2-1). 

USC Aiken point guard Brittany Hill (Mechanicsville, Va./Quinnipiac) closed out her evening with 15 points, seven assists and a career-high seven steals. 

Kayla Harris (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield HS) concluded her night with 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists. She also had one of USC Aiken's five blocks on the evening.

Porsha Martin (Douglasville, Ga./South Paulding HS) was the final Pacer in double figures with 11 points. She also had eight boards and one block. Martin was 5-for-7 from the field in the Pacer win. 

USC Aiken's Mackenzie Reese (Madison, Wis./Edgewood HS) led all players in the game with a career-high nine rebounds. She had two blocks and one steal.

Janitsha Williams led Wingate in its loss with 11 points and five rebounds.

The lead changed hands in the contest five times in the first half. USC Aiken would enter halftime clinging to an 11-point lead at 34-23.

The Pacers opened the second stanza on a 15-3 run and then never looked back. 

The Pacers will next welcome Catawba to the Convocation Center for a 7 p.m. contest on Saturday, Nov. 17. The Pacers last downed Catawba, 71-69, in the quarterfinals of the 2012 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at the Convocation Center on Friday, Mar. 9. 

The Catawba contest will be Upward Sports Night at the Convocation Center. Any child that participated in Upward Sports may attend the game for free.
