USC Aiken Gearing Up to Compete in Southeast Region Championship

CHARLOTTE – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's cross country team will compete in the 2012 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championship on Saturday, Nov. 3.

The 2012 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championship is being held at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C. The regional is being hosted by Queens.

The men's 10K portion of the regional is slated to get underway at 10 a.m. The women's 6K is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

Tickets are just $2 for adults and students. The regional will be free for those 10-and-under. 

The Pacers are searching for their first-ever spot in the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship in the Southeast Regional. The national championship meet will be held in Joplin, Mo. on Saturday, Nov. 17. Missouri Southern is hosting the national championship meet. 

Entering the 2012 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship, the Pacers have put together a strong fall.

USC Aiken opened its 2012 season on Sept. 14 by winning the 5K Francis Marion Invitational at the Freedom Florence Recreational Complex.

The team victory was the first for the Pacers since claiming the team title at the Siemens Technologies/USCB Invitational in 2007. USC Aiken now has four team meet victories in program history.

Two-time All-Peach Belt Conference runner Keely Gillespie (Belvedere, S.C./North Augusta) picked up her first career individual meet win in the Francis Marion Invitational. Gillespie claimed the best 6K time in school history in the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Championship with a time of 23:40.26.
