Pacers Extend Winning Streak to 11 With Two Wins on Saturday

MONTEVALLO, Ala. — The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team claimed two victories Saturday to run their unbeaten streak to 11 matches. USC Aiken's (15-5, 4-0 PBC) victories came against Montevallo, 3-0, and University of Alabama Huntsville, 3-2.

The two wins Saturday allowed the Pacers to begin their six-match road trip 2-0 as they remained undefeated in Peach Belt play and defeated their final non-conference opponent of the year.

Match 1—USC Aiken def. Montevallo 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-16)

 The Pacers earned the victory over the Falcons (7-11, 1-4 PBC) in straight sets by posting a .308 hitting percentage.

Two Pacers claimed double-digit kills in the match with Ashley Diedrich (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips HS) leading the way with 13 kills and adding four service aces. Alyssa Johnson (Apple Valley, Minn. /Apple Valley HS) earned 10 kills while hitting an impressive .667 and collecting one solo block and 3 block assists.

Samantha Lukralle (Lindenhurst, N.Y. /Lindenhurst HS) led the team with a match-high 18 digs while also recording a service ace.

The Pacer offense was facilitated by Sheila Walsh (Fort Mill, S.C./Nation Ford HS) who dished out 21 assists as the only Pacer with double-digit assists.

Match 2—USC Aiken def. University of Alabama Huntsville 3-2 (25-17, 20-25, 25-18, 27-25, 15-10)

USC Aiken pulled out the five-set victory against the Chargers (9-9, 3-4 GSC) after dropping a very close fourth set which put the outcome in jeopardy.

Four Pacers recorded double-digit kills led by Shannon Byers (Morristown, Minn./Faribault HS) who earned a double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs while hitting .394. Diedrich also recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs.

Johnson also recorded 11 kills while earning three solo blocks and three block assists. The final Pacer with double-digit kills was Hannah Tierney (Winchester, Va./James Wood HS), recording 10 kills and three service aces.

Lukralle led the team in digs again, collecting 34. Claire Patten (Boulder, Colo./Mercer) secured a team-high four aces for the Pacers.

Ashley Farwell (Wake Forest, N.C. / Wake Forest-Rolesville HS) distributed 21 assists for the team lead and Walsh added another 17 assists.

The Pacers continue their road trip this week with PBC matches against Lander, Flagler, and Armstrong. USC Aiken will next be in action at home against Montevallo on Friday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
