Box Score AIKEN, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team claimed a 1-1 double overtime tie with visiting Erskine on Saturday evening at the "Pacer Pit."
USC Aiken (3-3-3) opened the scoring on the evening in the 16th-minute when a streaking Brett Van Pelt received a pitch-perfect pass from Jason King (Montego Bay, Jamaica/USC Salkehatchie). Van Pelt (Aiken, S.C./South Aiken HS) deftly placed the ball into the lower left corner of the net for a 1-0 Pacer advantage.
The goal was a part of a dominant first half for USC Aiken that saw the Pacers own a 9-4 shot advantage in the half.
Erskine (5-3-3) would place itself back in the game in the 81st-minute when Jack Kimber scored on a penalty kick.
Neither team would find the back of the net the rest of the way.
Erskine ended the match with a 22-18 shot advantage overall. The Flying Fleet owned a 10-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
USC Aiken will next return home to face non-conference foe Mount Olive at the "Pacer Pit" on Monday, Oct. 8. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
