Pacers Snap Skid With 3-2 PBC Victory Over Montevallo

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team snapped a four-match losing streak with a 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 25-17, 21-25, 15-7) Peach Belt Conference victory over Montevallo on Friday evening at the Convocation Center. 

Montevallo (11-13, 3-6 PBC) started the match off by claiming a 25-23 win in the first set. USC Aiken (16-9, 5-4 PBC) would bounce back in the next two sets, easily claiming a 25-18 win in game two before obtaining a 25-17 victory in the third set.

Montevallo looked to get the momentum back in the match in the fourth set with a 25-21 win.

USC Aiken would bounce back from the fourth set setback to claim the match victory in the decisive fifth set with a 15-7 victory.

USC Aiken ended the match hitting .177 as a team. Montevallo hit .169 in its loss to the Pacers.

Shannon Byers (Morristown, Minn./Faribault HS) led the Pacers in the match with 16 kills. She also collected 14 digs to claim a double-double in the match.

In total, three Pacers recorded double-digit kills. Hannah Tierney (Winchester, Va./James Wood HS) ended the match with 15 kills, while Leah Rodgers (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary HS) posted 10. Tierney also led the Pacers in the match with five blocks. 

Samantha Lukralle (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst HS) ended USC Aiken's win over Montevallo with a match-high 28 digs. Claire Patten (Boulder, Colo./Mercer) was the final of three Pacers with double-digit digs with 12.

Sheila Walsh (Fort Mill, S.C./Nation Ford HS) and Alex Petock (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge HS) paced the Pacer offense in the win over the Falcons. Walsh concluded the match with a match-high 30 assists. Petock had 22 assists in the match.

Michelle Walker led Montevallo in its loss with 17 kills. Montevallo's Kaleigh Harvey was just behind Lukralle with 27 digs.

USC Aiken will next close out its 2012 regular-season road schedule with two Peach Belt Conference road matches. The Pacers will first travel to UNC Pembroke for a 7 p.m. match on Friday, Nov. 2 in Pembroke, N.C. One day later, USC Aiken will conclude its 2012 regular-season road schedule with a 2 p.m. match against Francis Marion in Florence, S.C.
