AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken head baseball coach Kenny Thomas announced recently that the first USC Aiken Fantasy Baseball Game will be held at Roberto Hernandez Stadium on Thursday, Nov. 8.
The proceeds from the special event will benefit the USC Aiken baseball program and Carley's Rays of Hope of the Brain Tumor Foundation. The foundation provides support for families of children with brain and spinal cord tumors in South Carolina.
"What a great event I expect this to be," noted Thomas. "This is the first annual and it looks to be a great time for fans and players. We have community people, alumni and fans playing in the game. This is for those who think they still can or those who wish they could.
"The participants will wear USCA Uniforms and play on the big field like the big boys. It's going to be fun for the whole family."
The special event cost $200 to participate. The low cost in support of the USC Aiken baseball program and Carley's Rays of Hope of the Brain Tumor Foundation includes uniforms and hats to keep along with practices in preparation for the big game.
The USC Aiken Fantasy Baseball Game will be on Nov. 8, but the action on the week gets underway on Monday, Nov. 5. After all participants get fitted for their uniforms and take individual and team pictures they will then have a practice at 6:45 p.m. with the USC Aiken baseball coaching staff. After the practice a special dinner will be provided courtesy of Zaxby's.
One day later on Tuesday, Nov. 6, an optional batting practice session will be held at Best 9 Academy. Refreshments will be served during the batting practice session. The participants will then rest on Wednesday, Nov. 7 to get ready for the big game.
After the national anthem and introductions by Tony Baughman of WKSX, the players will then hit the field for the game. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m.
Tickets to attend the USC Aiken Fantasy Baseball Game are just $5 for spectators.
Prior to the USC Aiken Baseball Fantasy Game there will also be a celebrity softball game with celebrities from throughout the Aiken community scheduled to play. The celebrity softball game starts at 6 p.m. on Nov. 8.
Each celebrity softball player will make a $20 donation to benefit the USC Aiken baseball program and Carley's Rays of Hope of the Brain Tumor Foundation.
Participants in the celebrity softball game will receive a Carley's Ray of Hope T-Shirt as a souvenir and to wear during the game.
