Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team took a huge step in claiming a spot in the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Championship with a thrilling 1-0 victory on Senior Night over regionally fourth-ranked UNC Pembroke on Wednesday evening at the "Pacer Pit."
The win over UNC Pembroke (11-4-1, 5-4-0 PBC) on Wednesday evening moves USC Aiken (5-5-4, 2-5-1 PBC) into sole possession of eighth place in the 10-team Peach Belt Conference men's soccer standings with one league match remaining. The top eight teams advance to the Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Championship.
Mohamed Fall (Dakar, Senegal/USC Salkehatchie) scored the game-winning goal for the Pacers in the 72nd-minute when he was able to score off an assist from Mark Hanlon (Dublin, Ireland/Blackfoot College).
The goal happened when Hanlon took advantage of a failed UNC Pembroke clearance. Hanlon just outside of the box deftly flicked the ball on to Fall, who then slotted the ball into the back of the net.
UNC Pembroke held the advantage in shots in the match at 14-11. The Braves held a commanding 12-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
Pacer goalkeeper Brandon Jarosz (Bluffton, S.C./Bluffton HS) saved four shots in acquiring his first clean sheet of the 2012 campaign.
The Pacers will next close out their 2012 regular season on the road against North Georgia in Dahlonega, Ga. on Saturday, Oct. 27. The Peach Belt Conference match is slated to get underway at 7:30 p.m.
