USC Aiken Set to Compete in PBC Cross Country Championships

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's cross country team will compete in the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The 2012 Peach Belt Conference Cross Country Championships will be held on the campus of Montevallo.

USC Aiken will be vying for its first-ever Peach Belt Conference Women's Cross Country Championship on Saturday.

The championship festivities are slated to get underway at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19 with a course preview for each Peach Belt Conference student-athlete participating in the championship.

The men's 8K championship will commence at 9:45 a.m. EST on Saturday. The women's 6K portion of the championship is slated to get underway at 10:45 a.m. EST. 

The 2012 Peach Belt Conference Cross Country Championships will close with an awards luncheon at 12 p.m. EST.

USC Aiken will running on Montevallo's home course for the second time this season. The Pacers finished eighth as a team at the Montevallo Falcon Classic on Saturday, Sept. 22. The Falcon Classic served as the Peach Belt Conference Pre-Conference race. 

The Pacers have put together a strong fall heading into the Peach Belt Conference Cross Country Championships. 

USC Aiken opened its 2012 season on Sept. 14 by winning the 5K Francis Marion Invitational at the Freedom Florence Recreational Complex.

The team victory was the first for the Pacers since claiming the team title at the Siemens Technologies/USCB Invitational in 2007. USC Aiken now has four team meet victories in program history.

Two-time All-Peach Belt Conference runner Keely Gillespie (Belvedere, S.C./North Augusta) picked up her first career individual meet win in the Francis Marion Invitational. 

After the Peach Belt Confererence Cross Country Championships on Saturday, the Pacers will next vie for their first-ever spot in the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship by competing in the 6K NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C. at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3.
