Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – A Montevallo goal in the 67th-minute lifted the Falcons to a narrow 2-1 victory over the University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon at the "Pacer Pit."
The contest was part of USC Aiken's annual "Kick Out Cancer" day.
Montevallo (6-6-2, 3-4-1 PBC) scored the first goal of the match in the 17th-minute when Julie Heltne scored on a give-and-go in the box with Brittany Woodhouse. Heltne took the pass and slotted the ball into the lower left corner of the Pacer net.
USC Aiken (4-7-3, 3-3-1 PBC) would tie the contest in the 44th-minute when Aubrey Danielson (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman HS) beat the Montevallo keeper one-on-one. Danielson's third goal of the year came off an assist from Haley Pipkin (West Columbia, S.C./Airport HS).
Woodhouse scored the game-winning goal for Montevallo in the 67th-minute when she scored on a free kick from 20 yards out.
Montevallo owned a 14-8 shot advantage in the contest. The Pacers owned a dominating 8-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
USC Aiken will next travel to Savannah, Ga. to face off against national No. 5 Armstrong at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
