Montevallo Scores in Second Overtime to Best Pacers

Box Score

AIKEN, S.C. – Montevallo scored in the 108th-minute of the second overtime to claim a narrow 1-0 Peach Belt Conference victory over the University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon at the "Pacer Pit."

The game in the final minutes of the second overtime, Montevallo's Gary O'Neill found Pedro Carneiro just outside of the 18-yard box. Carneiro made one move and then placed the ball into the lower left corner of the net for a 1-0 league win over the Pacers.

USC Aiken (4-4-3, 1-4-0 PBC) had the best opportunity in regulation in the latter minutes of the second half. The goal almost materialized when Jason King (Montego Bay, Jamaica/USC Salkehatchie) was able to find some room in the box. He sent the ball towards an open goal, but a Montevallo defender was able to just clear the ball off the line to keep the game knotted at 0-0.

Montevallo (9-3-1, 6-1-1 PBC) owned an 18-13 shot advantage in the contest. They also held a slight 5-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

USC Aiken goalkeeper Joshua Poissant (Windsor Locks, Conn./Windsor Locks HS) made five saves in the loss to Montevallo. Montevallo goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway saved seven Pacer shots en route to his clean sheet.

USC Aiken next closes out its season-long four-game homestand with a Peach Belt Conference game with Francis Marion at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the "Pacer Pit."
