USC Aiken Mauls Cougars to Stay Perfect in League Play

AIKEN, S.C. – Five University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball players scored in double figures and the Pacers garnered a 76-61 Peach Belt Conference victory over Columbus State on Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.

USC Aiken (10-2, 4-0 PBC) has now won nine of its last 10 games. The Pacers have won seven straight over Columbus State after Saturday's victory.

The Pacers basically led the entire game in their victory over Columbus State.

USC Aiken would enter intermission owning a 15-point lead at 40-25. The lead would balloon to 19 by the time there was just five minutes left in the second half.

USC Aiken concluded its victory over Columbus State shooting 49.1 percent as a team (26-for-53). The Pacers were on fire in the first half, hitting 15 of their 26 shots (57.7 percent).

The Pacer defense allowed Columbus State to shoot just 37.9 percent (22-for-58) as a team. USC Aiken scored 17 points off Columbus State's 16 turnovers in the game.

USC Aiken's Jeremiah Pojah (Houston, Texas/East Texas Baptist) claimed a double-double in the Pacer win over Columbus State with 11 rebounds and 10 points. It was his second double-double of the year.

Ronald Zimmerman (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley) led all players in the game with 17 points for the Pacers. Zimmerman, who was 5-for-9 from beyond the arc, scored 14 of his 17 points in the first half.

Sterling Council (Camden, S.C./Camden) was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line en route to 16 points for USC Aiken, while Re'mon Nelson (Columbus, Ohio/Canal Winchester) finished with 10 points and four assists.

Joel Gierbolini (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Long Island) was the final Pacer in double figures with 11 points. He also had five rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. 

Columbus State was led in its loss by two players with 15 points each (Winford Ivey and Jarmarquis Steverson). 

USC Aiken will next travel to Milledgeville, Ga. for a 3:30 p.m. contest against Georgia College on Saturday, Jan. 14. Two days later, USC Aiken will welcome rival Augusta State to the Convocation Center for a 7:30 p.m. game on Monday, Jan. 16.
