Box Score FLORENCE, S.C. – The nationally 14th-ranked
University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team pulled
away in the second half to pick up a 59-47 Peach Belt Conference
road victory over Francis Marion on Wednesday evening at the Smith
University Center.
USC Aiken (10-1, 3-0 PBC) has now won nine straight games. The
Pacers are now just two consecutive wins away from tying the school
record for most wins in a row, which is 11 (11/20/01-01/16/02).
Three Pacers finished in double figures in the win over Francis
Marion on Wednesday with Kayla Harris and Hannah
DeGraffinreed both concluding the Pacer win with 13 points
each.
DeGraffinreed (Raleigh, N.C./Merrimack) ended her evening going
4-for-6 from the field. She was 5-for-8 from the free throw line.
DeGraffinreed also had five rebounds and two assists.
Harris (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) hit four of her eight shot
attempts from the field in the game. She was 5-for-7 from the free
throw line.
Daniela
Tarailo (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point ) was the final
Pacer in double figures with 12 points. She just missed on a
double-double as she also procured a game-high nine rebounds.
Brittany
Hill (Mechanicsville, Va./Quinnipiac) did not score in double
figures for the Pacers, but she did dish out a game-high six
assists to go along with her six rebounds.
No Francis Marion player was able to score in double figures
with Chelsey Johnson leading the Patriots with eight points.
USC Aiken finished the win over Francis Marion shooting 41.3
percent (19-for-46) as a team. The stifling Pacer defense in turn
held Francis Marion to just 33.3 percent (17-for-51) from the field
as a team.
Francis Marion (5-5, 1-3 PBC) scored the first three points in
the game, but USC Aiken then reeled off a 7-0 run to own a 7-3 lead
with 15:11 left in the first half of action.
Just over seven minutes later, the game was tied at 14-14 with
just over eight minutes remaining in the first stanza.
USC Aiken would then go ahead by as many as five points at 24-19
with 2:27 left in the first half, but Francis Marion closed the
game's inaugural half on a 6-1 run to leave the game tied at 25-all
at intermission.
The Pacers commenced the second half on a 9-3 spurt to take a
six-point 34-28 lead with a little over four minutes gone in the
half.
USC Aiken would never look back from there as they pulled away
for the 12-point victory. The Pacers outscored Francis Marion,
34-22, in the second half.
The Pacers will next close the week by welcoming Columbus State
to the Convocation Center for a 1:30 p.m. contest on Saturday, Jan.
