Pacers Drop Both Matches On Saturday at Pirate Volleyball Classic

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team dropped both of its matches on the final day of the 2011 Pirate Volleyball Classic on the campus of Armstrong Atlantic State.

The Pacers will next host the annual USC Aiken Volleyball Invitational at the Convocation Center on Friday, Sept. 9 and Saturday, Sept. 10. The tournament will feature 12 of the best volleyball teams in NCAA Division II in USC Aiken, Augusta State, Armstrong Atlantic State, Flagler, Anderson, Newberry, Pfeiffer, Wheeling Jesuit, Lynn, Coker, Florida Tech and Barton.

The Pacers will open their annual home tournament by looking to remain perfect all-time against Coker at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9. Later that afternoon, USC Aiken will meet Anderson at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Sept. 10, USC Aiken and Pfeiffer will meet for the first time since 2005 at 12 p.m. The Pacers will conclude their home event with a 4 p.m. match against Lynn. It will be the first meeting between the two programs since 2003.

Catawba 3, USC Aiken 0 (Match One)

Catawba (3-1) garnered a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-17) victory over USC Aiken (1-3) early Saturday afternoon.

Leah Rodgers (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary) led the Pacers in their loss to Catawba on Saturday with 11 kills. She was the only USC Aiken player with double-digit kills.

Samantha Lukralle (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) with 10 digs was the only Pacer to record double figures in the category, while Ashley Farwell (Wake Forest, N.C./Wake Forest-Rolesville) led the Pacers with 16 assists.

Alli Parrish and Kaitlyn Whitmer both finished with 10 or more kills for the Indians in the win over the Pacers. Parrish led all in the match with 12 kills. Whitmer posted 11 kills.

Jordan Raye provided the assist on the majority of Parrish's and Whitmer's kills as she finished the match with 31 assists. Jenny Young ended her match with a match-high 17 digs.

Lenoir-Rhyne 3, USC Aiken 1 (Match Two)

In USC Aiken's second match of the day the Pacers seemed to take the momentum in game two as they squared the match at 1-1. Lenoir-Rhyne (2-2) would take the momentum back in the third and fourth games to take an overall 3-1 win (25-23, 22-25, 25-16, 25-16) over USC Aiken.

Three Pacers finished with double-digit kills in the loss to Lenoir-Rhyne with Rodgers leading the way with a match-high 16 kills. Shannon Byers (Morristown, Minn./Faribault) and Endea Ellison (Orange Park, Fla./Episopal) both concluded the loss to the Bears with 10 kills each.

Byers claimed her third double-double of the year in the match as she also recorded 11 digs. Lukralle once again led the Pacers in the category with 15 digs.

Nicole DeVries (Orangeville, Ill./East Tennessee State) paced the USC Aiken attack with 22 assists.

Brooke Christenbury acquired a double-double for the Bears in their win. Christenbury ended the match with 15 digs and 13 kills.
