Box Score FLORENCE, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken
volleyball team snapped a five-match losing streak with a 3-2
(25-19, 13-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-13) Peach Belt Conference win over
Francis Marion at the Smith University Center on Saturday
afternoon.
USC Aiken (6-9, 1-1 PBC) opened the match by hitting .364 in the
first game en route to a 25-19 victory. The tide would turn in the
Patriots' favor in the next two sets as Francis Marion claimed the
next two games to take a 2-1 advantage into the fourth set.
In the fourth game, Francis Marion (4-8, 0-2 PBC) looked as if
it was going to pick up the match victory as they owned an 11-8
lead early in the fourth set. USC Aiken would then earn the next
seven points to own a 15-11 lead. They would not look back from
there as they rolled on to a 25-18 victory in the fourth game.
In the decisive fifth game, the two teams battled back and forth
before USC Aiken held off the Patriots to emerge with a 15-13
win.
Four different Pacers recorded double-digit kills in the match
with Leah
Rodgers (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary) leading the way with 14
kills. Shannon Byers
(Morristown, Minn./Faribault) and Hannah Tierney
(Winchester, Va./James Wood) both concluded the match with 11
kills, while Susan MacClary
(Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) acquired 10 kills in the
match.
Byers also claimed 11 digs to pick up another
double-double.
Pacer libero Claire Patten
(Boulder, Colo./Mercer) led all in the match with 20 digs.
Sheila
Walsh (Fort Mill, S.C./Nation Ford) and Ashley Farwell
(Wake Forest, N.C./Wake Forest-Rolesville) paced the USC Aiken
attack in the match with both finishing with over 20 assists in the
Pacer victory. Walsh ended the match with 26 assists, while Farwell
assisted on 22 Pacer points.
Ashlee Crook led the Francis Marion attack with 14 kills. Hallie
Legg ended the match with 17 digs for the Patriots.
USC Aiken will next travel to Christenberry Fieldhouse in
Augusta, Ga. to face off against rival Augusta State at 7 p.m. on
Friday, Sept. 30. One day later, USC Aiken will play host to its
first Peach Belt Conference home match of the year against
Montevallo at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1.
