AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of South Carolina Aiken
sophomore Kyle Godsman was selected the Peach Belt Conference Men's
Golfer of the Week on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011.
Godsman's honoring marks the second consecutive week that
a Pacer has been dubbed Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Week.
USC Aiken newcomer Taylor Welborn (LaGrange, Ga./Darton) was
selected the Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Week on Sept. 8,
2011 after winning the Eighth Annual Kiawah Island
Invitational.
Godsman (Moray, Scotland/Lossiemouth) concluded the Springhill
Suites Intercollegiate earlier this week in a tie for second place
with Charleston Southern's David Denlinger. The two finished
with a 7-under score of 209.
By virtue of finishing in a tie for second, Godsman (70-68-71)
claimed his first top five finish as a Pacer in the event.
Godsman's 68 in the second round of the Springhill Suites
Intercollegiate is currently tied for the lowest round this year in
the Peach Belt Conference. Godsman's 69.7 stroke average
presently leads the Peach Belt Conference.
The 18th-ranked USC Aiken Golf team finished the
Springhill Suites Intercollegiate in a tie for second with Samford.
The Pacers posted a three-round team tally of 4-under 860
(288-288-284) to finish second at the event that featured 13 NCAA
Division I teams and two Peach Belt Conference schools.
USC Aiken has now concluded its first two tournaments of the
fall of 2011 in second place. The Pacers ended the Eighth Annual
Kiawah Island Invitational one week earlier in second place out of
17 teams.
Godsman and the Pacers will next play in Akron's Firestone
Invitational at the par 72 Firestone Country Club. The tournament
will be contested Monday, Oct. 10-Tuesday, Oct. 11. USC Aiken will
be playing in the Firestone Invitational for the first time in
2011.
