Late Gillespie Goal Not Enough to Lift Pacers Past Anderson

Box Score

ANDERSON, S.C. – Despite a late goal from Caroline Gillespie, the University of South Carolina Aiken Women's Soccer team was unable to pick up a road win over Anderson in a 2-1 non-conference loss to the Trojans on Monday evening.

Down 2-0, USC Aiken (3-2) would mount a late rally. Gillespie's goal in the 90th-minute cut the deficit to just one, but the Pacers would not be able to get any closer before the final whistle sounded.

Gillespie (Greenville, S.C./JL Mann) has now scored a team-leading three goals in 2011.

Anderson (3-2) netted the first goal of the match at the 24:12 mark when Jessica Kleinberg scored for the Trojans.

The score would remain 1-0 until the 87th-minute when Kathryn Witcher scored off a Britta Widenhouse assist. The goal made it 2-0 Anderson and it would eventually become the game-winner.

Anderson owned a 13-7 shot advantage in the match. The Trojans finished with a 6-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

USC Aiken will now have a week off before traveling to Wingate, N.C. to face off against Wingate at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19.
