Box Score ANDERSON, S.C. – Despite a late goal from Caroline
Gillespie, the University of South Carolina Aiken Women's
Soccer team was unable to pick up a road win over Anderson in a 2-1
non-conference loss to the Trojans on Monday evening.
Down 2-0, USC Aiken (3-2) would mount a late rally. Gillespie's
goal in the 90th-minute cut the deficit to just one, but
the Pacers would not be able to get any closer before the final
whistle sounded.
Gillespie (Greenville, S.C./JL Mann) has now scored a
team-leading three goals in 2011.
Anderson (3-2) netted the first goal of the match at the 24:12
mark when Jessica Kleinberg scored for the Trojans.
The score would remain 1-0 until the 87th-minute when
Kathryn Witcher scored off a Britta Widenhouse assist. The goal
made it 2-0 Anderson and it would eventually become the
game-winner.
Anderson owned a 13-7 shot advantage in the match. The Trojans
finished with a 6-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
USC Aiken will now have a week off before traveling to Wingate,
N.C. to face off against Wingate at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19.
