Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken Men's
Soccer team fell 2-1 to North Georgia in its Peach Belt Conference
Opener on Saturday evening at the "Pacer Pit."
North Georgia (2-1-1, 1-0 PBC) opened the night's scoring in the
31st-minute when Jesy Phelps scored off an assist from
Max Angel.
The score would remain 1-0 in favor of North Georgia until the
71st-minute when Brett Van Pelt
(Aiken, S.C./South Aiken) found an equalizer for the Pacers. Van
Pelt was able to take advantage of a well struck corner kick from
Troy Watson
(Kingston, Jamaica/Montreat) to even the game at 1-1.
North Georgia would claim the victory off an own goal by the
Pacers in the 88th-minute.
North Georgia owned a 20-15 shot advantage in the match. USC Aiken
took three more corner kicks (6-3) than the Saints.
USC Aiken (2-3, 0-1 PBC) defeated Newberry in a thrilling 2-1
overtime win in 2010 at the "Pacer Pit" and the Pacers will look to
continue their winning ways next against the Wolves in a 4:30 p.m.
match on Wednesday, Sept. 14.
