Carmon Selected to PBC All-Conference Baseball Team

COLUMBUS, Ga. – University of South Carolina Aiken junior baseball player Stephen Carmon was chosen to the Peach Belt Conference All-Conference team at a banquet on the eve of the 2011 PBC Baseball Championship at Golden Park on Saturday, May 7.

Carmon was named to the second team as a shortstop.

A native of Camden, S.C., Carmon finished his 2011 season in the top 10 in the Peach Belt Conference in 13 different offensive categories. He was also second in the league in assists with 162.

Carmon, who finished the year first in the PBC in total bases (115) and triples (seven), started all 50 games for USC Aiken at shortstop in 2011. The seven triples have him currently in the top five in the category in NCAA Division II.

He concluded his junior campaign hitting .373 (72-for-193) with 46 runs scored and 26 RBIs. He finished his season with 28 extra-base hits on 17 doubles, seven triples and four home runs.

The 2009 PBC Freshman of the Year had a slugging percentage of .596 and an on-base percentage of .474 in 2011.

The Camden High School product owned a team-best 11-game hitting streak this past season. Carmon also obtained 20 multiple hit games in 2011.

A two-time PBC Player of the Week (Feb. 15 and Apr. 19) in 2011, Carmon stole a team-best 32 bases.

For the first time, the Peach Belt Conference awarded co-Players of the Year for Francis Marion's Buddy Sosnoskie and Georgia College's Shawn Ward. The honor for Sosnoskie was the start of a big night for FMU, which swept all the major awards with Don Sandifer named the Pitcher of the Year, Michael Wilson the Freshman of the Year and Art Inabinet the Coach of the Year. It is the first time in conference history that one program has received all four awards.

The 2011 All-Conference team is listed below as selected by the league's head coaches. Due to a tie at first-team utility player, the size of the first team was expanded by one. There was also a tie at second-team catcher.
