DELAND, Fla. – The 22nd-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken golf team concluded the 2011 NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional at the par 72, 7,072-yard Victoria Hills Golf Club in a tie for 12th place with a score of 895 (298-297-300).
The Pacers entered Wednesday's final round in 11th place, but a 300 in the third and final round dropped them a spot and tied them with 10th-ranked North Alabama (298-303-294) for 12th place.
USC Aiken's Hayden Letien (Camden, S.C./Camden) capped off his impressive freshman campaign by finishing tied for 16th with a three-round score of 220 (71-73-76).
Mark Dickson (Edinburgh, Scotland/Firrhill) had the best round of the day for the Pacers in the third round with the sophomore posting a 1-under 71. The 71 on Wednesday moved him up to a tie for 53rd at 226 (74-81-71).
Sophomore Matt Atkins (Owensboro, Ky./Henderson State) finished in a tie for 58th at 227 (75-75-77), while fellow sophomore Gaines Milliner (Aiken, S.C./Aiken) tied for 68th at 229 (78-74-77).
USC Aiken freshman Kyle Godsman (Moray, Scotland/Lossiemouth) ended the regional in a tie for 82nd at 232 (81-75-76).
Nationally third-ranked Lynn claimed the team title at the 2011 NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional.
The top five teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) advanced to the finals May 16-20 at The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals in Florence, Ala. The finals will be hosted by the University of North Alabama.
Joining Lynn in the national tournament will be fifth-ranked Barry (second), 12th-ranked Barton (third), 18th-ranked Newberry (fourth) and 15th-ranked Columbus State (fifth).
Delta State's Grant Goforth and Coker's Jake Murphy advanced to the national tournament as well. Goforth finished fourth, while Murphy tied for fifth.
