2011 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Softball Team
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Two University of South Carolina Aiken softball student-athletes were chosen to the 2011 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic softball team.
The PBC All-Academic softball team was released from the league office on Tuesday, May 24, 2011.
Senior Lauren Locklear claimed PBC All-Academic laurels for the second consecutive season, while sophomore Brandy Bossle was chosen to the team for the first time.
A native of Charleston, S.C., Locklear currently owns a 3.33 Grade Point Average as a Business Administration and Marketing major.
A two-time All-Peach Belt Conference selection, Locklear concluded USC Aiken's 2011 season hitting .287 (43-for-150). Locklear played and started all 44 games for USC Aiken in 2011 at shortstop.
Locklear led the Pacers with 26 RBIs this past season. She also snagged a team-high tying 67 total bases and scored a team second-best 23 runs.
The Wando High School product tied for the team lead in total extra-base knocks with 16. She finished 2011 with 11 doubles, three home runs and two triples.
A sophomore out of North East, Md., Bossle presently owns a 3.73 GPA as a Biology major.
An outfielder, Bossle played in 44 games for USC Aiken in 2011, starting 42. The Rising Sun High School product hit .276 (29-for-105) for USC Aiken this past season.
Bossle finished her season in 2011 with 15 runs scored to go along with six RBIs. She collected three doubles.
Bossle was a perfect 8-for-8 in stolen base attempts.
The Peach Belt Conference All-Academic softball team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution.
The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the team.
Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 26 NCAA Division II National Championships. The Peach Belt Conference features 13 member institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama compete in 13 championship sports. The 2009-10 members of the PBC are Augusta State University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Clayton State University, Columbus State University, Flagler College, Francis Marion University, Georgia College & State University, Georgia Southwestern State University, Lander University, University of Montevallo, North Georgia College & State University, University of North Carolina at Pembroke and the University of South Carolina Aiken.
