FLORENCE, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken tennis teams could not overcome Peach Belt Conference rival Francis Marion on Sunday, April 3.
In a battle of top 30 teams, the USC Aiken men (7-8, 1-7 PBC) fell 8-1 to 14th-ranked Francis Marion (9-5, 5-4 PBC).
The USC Aiken women (8-10, 2-8 PBC) dropped a 7-2 decision to 14th-ranked Francis Marion (10-6, 6-5 PBC).
In the men's match, USC Aiken's lone win came at No. 3 doubles with the Pacer tandem of Juan Manuel Guglielmeti (Mar del Plata, Argentina /Instituto Albert Einstein) and Lucas Gobbi (Santa Bárbara d'Oeste, Brazil /Colegio Politec) besting Francis Marion's Tim Ruepke and Dirk Bair 8-5.
Andrea Cediel (Cali, Colombia/Cypress Bay) picked up USC Aiken's only win in singles against Francis Marion. She earned a 4-6, 7-6, 10-7 win over the Patriots' Caitlin Siney at No. 3 singles.
Cediel and doubles partner Margot Simon (Nantes, France/St. Joseph de Loquidy) bested Siney and Rachel Gaster at No. 2 doubles for USC Aiken's only other point on the day.
The USC Aiken women will next travel to Montevallo, Ala. for a 3 p.m. EST Peach Belt Conference match against Montevallo on Tuesday, April 5.
The Pacer men will next travel back to Florence, S.C. for a neutral site match against nationally third-ranked Concordia at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9.
