PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team picked up its second Peach Belt Conference victory of the 2011 season on Saturday afternoon with a dominating 8-1 road win over UNC Pembroke at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
The lone loss for USC Aiken (8-9, 2-7 PBC) on Saturday to UNC Pembroke (6-13, 1-9 PBC) came at No. 1 singles.
The Pacers easily breezed by doubles before earning five of the six singles matches.
USC Aiken's biggest win of the day in singles came at No. 3 singles with Andrea Cediel (Cali, Colombia/Cypress Bay) besting UNC Pembroke No. 3 Hannah Herlocker 6-1, 6-0.
The win by Cediel (9-8, 3-6 PBC) was her team-high tying ninth singles victory of the 2011 season. She is tied with Margot Simon (9-7, 3-6 PBC) for the most Pacer singles wins in 2011. Simon (Nantes, France/St. Joseph de Loquidy) downed UNC Pembroke's Mia Winterbottom 6-4, 6-0 on Saturday at No. 2 singles.
The USC Aiken women will conclude their week tomorrow with an 11 a.m. Peach Belt Conference match against Francis Marion in Florence, S.C.
