INDIANAPOLIS – The University of South Carolina Aiken
men's basketball team finished the 2010-11 season as the
national leader in blocked shots.
The Pacers as a team in the 2010-11 season blocked an average of
6.1 shots per outing. Bowie State and St. Andrews were just behind
the Pacers in blocked shots per game at 6.0.
USC Aiken was one of two programs from the CSRA in the top five
nationally in the category as Paine was fourth at 5.6 blocked shots
per game.
Armstrong Atlantic State was the closest Peach Belt Conference
institution to the Pacers with the Pirates ranking seventh
nationally in the category at 5.3 blocked shots per contest.
Peach Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year Alvin Brown
was the catalyst for the Pacer block party with Brown finishing
fifth nationally in blocked shots per game with an average of 3.3
swats per game.
Temi Adebayo of Philadelphia University was the national leader
with 4.2 blocks per game.
Brown in only one year has already moved to third all-time in
school history in career blocks with his 90 swats.
Brown's best game of the year came in USC Aiken's 76-71 win over
North Georgia at the Convocation Center on Jan. 17.
Brown (Fort Washington, Md. /James Madison) broke the Peach Belt
Conference record for blocked shots in a single game and finished
with the third triple-double in school history in USC Aiken's win
over North Georgia.
Brown finished his incredible night with 13 blocks, 13 points
and 10 rebounds. His 13 blocks eclipsed the previous USC Aiken and
Peach Belt Conference record of 12 blocks in a game that was
formerly held by USC Aiken Hall of Famer Derek Moore, who swatted
12 shots in a contest with Coastal Carolina on Dec. 5, 1998.
As a team overall in the 2010-11 season the Pacers finished
second in the Peach Belt Conference East Division with a 10-8 mark
in league play.
USC Aiken concluded the year with a 17-10 record overall. The 17
wins leave the Pacers having won a school-record 89 games over the
last four seasons.
