AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's and women's tennis teams picked up identical 5-4 Peach Belt Conference victories over Georgia Southwestern on Monday at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex.
The 30th-ranked USC Aiken men improved to 8-9 on the 2011 season with its victory over the Hurricanes. The win was USC Aiken's second PBC win of the year, leaving the Pacers with a record of 2-7 in the 2011 season in league action.
The Pacer men snapped a five-match losing streak with Monday's win over Georgia Southwestern (6-14, 1-8 PBC).
The win also leaves the Pacer men as the eighth seed in the upcoming Peach Belt Conference Tennis Championship, which will be contested Friday, April 15-Sunday, April 17 at the Newman Tennis Center in Augusta, Ga.
USC Aiken will take on Peach Belt Conference champion and No. 1 seed Armstrong Atlantic State on Friday at the Newman Tennis Center.
The Pacer men won Monday's match due to their strong play in doubles. USC Aiken swept doubles before earning wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to acquire the overall 5-4 win.
The win on Monday over Georgia Southwestern (13-11, 2-10 PBC) for the Pacer women leaves them with an overall mark of 10-10 in the 2011 season. The Pacers finish the 2011 season with a 4-8 record in Peach Belt Conference action.
The Pacer women end the year having won four of their last five matches.
USC Aiken was down 2-1 entering singles, but the Pacers claimed a victory in No. 1-No. 4 singles to collect the 5-4 team win.
