Pacer Duo Acquires All-PBC Accolades; Brown Chosen Defensive Player of the Year

AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken had two men's basketball players chosen to the 2010-11 Peach Belt Conference Men's and Women's Basketball All-Conference team at a banquet at the Convocation Center.

USC Aiken's Byron Faison was named to the All-PBC Second Team, while Alvin Brown was chosen as the league's Defensive Player of the Year.

Faison is now a two-time All-PBC second team member as he also claimed the award in the 2009-10 season.

Faison is averaging a team-best 14.3 points per game. He is currently in the top 12 in the Peach Belt Conference in three different categories, including scoring, 3-pointers made and 3-point field goal percentage.

The senior guard is shooting 48.2 percent (137 for 284) from the field in the 2010-11 season. He is hitting upon 73.5 percent (61 for 83) of his free throws attempts.

Faison has knocked down 37.9 percent (50 for 132) of his 3-point field goal attempts.

In conference action this season, Faison (Sumter, S.C./Crestwood) shot 48.6 percent (86 for 177).

Faison became a member of the 1,000-point scoring club recently. He currently has 1,046 in his career. His 779 points at USC Aiken in just two years after transferring in from Winthrop is good for 12th-best in school history.

Faison scored in double figures 18 times during the 2010-11 season. He scored 20 or more in seven outings.

A preseason All-America selection prior to the 2010-11 campaign, Faison was named the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player.

Brown is leading the Peach Belt Conference and is in the top six nationally in blocked shots per game. Brown is averaging 3.3 blocked shots per outing.

Brown obtained 66 of his 90 blocks in the 2010-11 season in conference action.

The sophomore transfer from James Madison in only one year has already moved to third all-time in school history in career blocks with his 90 swats.

On the year, Brown averaged 8.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. He has the best field goal percentage in the Peach Belt Conference at 61.8 percent (89 for 144).

Brown has collected 12 double-figure scoring outings in the 2010-11 season to go along with three double-dobules.

He had a career-best 21 points to go along with 11 rebounds in a Pacer win over Mars Hill on Dec. 30.

Brown's best game came in USC Aiken's 76-71 win over North Georgia at the Convocation Center on Jan. 17.

Brown broke the Peach Belt Conference record for blocked shots in a single game and finished with the third triple-double in school history in USC Aiken's win over North Georgia.

Brown finished his incredible night with 13 blocks, 13 points and 10 rebounds. His 13 blocks eclipsed the previous USC Aiken and Peach Belt Conference record of 12 blocks in a game that was formerly held by USC Aiken Hall of Famer Derek Moore, who swatted 12 shots in a contest with Coastal Carolina on Dec. 5, 1998.

Brown's triple-double marked the first time that a Pacer had secured a triple-double in a single game since Moore acquired 16 points, 12 blocks and 11 rebounds in the Coastal Carolina game.

Brown was selected as the PBC Player of the Week on Monday, Jan. 24.

The 2010-11 All-Conference team was selected by the league's head coaches.  Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.
