2010-11 Peach Belt Conference Women's Basketball All-Academic Team
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Three University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball student-athletes were chosen to the 2010-11 Peach Belt Conference Women's Basketball All-Academic team.
USC Aiken's Triahna Harris, Deandra Schirmer and Daniela Tarailo were named to the prestigious team.
Harris with her honor became the program's first ever three-time winner of the award.
A native of Springfield, Va., Harris concluded her Pacer career third all-time in steals (194), second all-time in assists (406), sixth all-time in minutes played (3,050) and second all-time in games played (122).
The senior averaged 5.2 points and 3.9 assists per game in the 2010-11 season. She started every game for the nationally-ranked Pacers. The Pacer floor general is presently seventh nationally in assist to turnover ratio.
Harris currently boasts a 3.47 Grade Point Average as an Exercise and Sports Science major.
Schirmer's naming to the PBC All-Academic team is her second major academic award of the year as she was chosen to the Capital One District Three Women's Basketball Academic All-District Third Team in the college division in early February.
The Holton, Kan. native averaged 6.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in the 2010-11 season. She shot 45 percent from the field.
The senior owns a 3.94 GPA as a Business Administration major.
A sophomore, Tarailo knocked down a team-best 45 3-pointers in the 2010-11 season. She played in all 33 Pacer games, averaging 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
In the classroom, the Crown Point, Ind. native owns a 3.45 GPA as a Biology major.
In total, five Pacers received mention on the PBC All-Academic team as Mia Antoine (Stone Mountain, Ga./Dominion Christian) and Brittany Bowen (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) were Honorable Mention selections.
The USC Aiken women's basketball team claimed a school-record 27 victories in the 2010-11 season. The Pacers also won their first ever NCAA Tournament game and claimed a share of the Peach Belt Conference East Division title.
The PBC All-Academic teams are part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution.
The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 29 NCAA Division II National Championships. The PBC features 13 member institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama that compete in 13 championship sports. The 2010-11 members of the PBC are Augusta State University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Clayton State University, Columbus State University, Flagler College, Francis Marion University, Georgia College & State University, Georgia Southwestern State University, Lander University, University of Montevallo, North Georgia College & State University, University of North Carolina at Pembroke and the University of South Carolina Aiken.
