AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken women's
basketball player Kayla Harris was selected as the South Carolina
Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of
the Week on March 14, 2011.
The 2010-11 Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year, Harris
was impressive in her first NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Raleigh, N.C. native averaged a team-best 16.0 points per
game in USC Aiken's two games in the 2011 NCAA Division II
Southeast Regional at the Athletics & Fitness Center on the
campus of Clayton State University in Morrow, Ga.
The freshman forward shot 42.9 percent (9 for 21) from the field
in the two games. She hit 84.6 percent (11 for 13) of her free
throw attempts.
In USC Aiken's first ever NCAA Tournament victory against
Tusculum on Friday, March 11, Harris scored a team-high 17 points.
She also had three assists and a steal in USC Aiken's 69-66
win.
In eighth-ranked USC Aiken's season-ending loss to No. 6
Lander on Saturday, March 12, Harris finished with a team-high 15
points and eight rebounds. She was 8 for 9 from the charity stripe
in USC Aiken's loss to the Bearcats.
The South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic
Department Student-Athlete of the Week award honors one
