Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

AIKEN, S.C. – Ditching their traditional cardinal colors for pink, the University of South Carolina Aiken softball team aimed to Strike Out Cancer en route to ending a three-game losing streak with a pair of victories, 4-1 and 6-1, over 2009 and 2010 Conference Carolina regular season champions Limestone College Saturday afternoon at J.H. Satcher Field.

The Pacers are now 12-0 at home in 2011 while improving to 15-9 overall. The Saints now find themselves 7-19-1 after a long road trek over the past week.

Prior to the first game, USC Aiken Associate Director for Student Involvement Angel Miano threw out the honorary first pitch in memory of her mother who she lost to breast cancer.

The Pacers easily claimed both games behind strong performances at the plate, out-hitting the Saints 19-4 between the two games.

USC Aiken took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning of the first game when Brittney Williamson (Lexington, S.C./White Knoll) and Haley Justice (North Augusta, S.C./Midland Valley) crossed the dish.

USC Aiken added a pair of insurance runs to its total in the fourth and sixth innings before Limestone notched its first run of the day in the seventh inning. Despite the late score, the Pacers were able to cruise to victory down the stretch.

Justice and Brandy Bossle (North East, Md./Rising Sun) led the Pacers at the plate, each going 2-for-3 in the first game. Justice also had two runs scored and an RBI while Bossle chipped in two RBIs of her own in the contest.

Emily Wallace suffered the loss in game one for the Saints to fall to 2-7.

Limestone made a spirited run at breaking the Pacers' 11-game winning streak at home in the second game as the Saints went up 1-0 early in the first ining.

Neither team would score from there until Kayla Denham (Palatka, Fla./Daytona State) ripped a two-run home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the fith inning.

The Pacers would stretch out their lead from there, adding four more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to cruise to the 6-1 victory off nine hits to the Saints two.

Denham and catcher Nicole Borden (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles School) led the second game's drive from the plate for the Pacers. Denham was 3-for-4 at the dish with two RBIs and a run scored thanks to her fifth-inning tater while Borden went 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Two-time Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week India Kornegay (Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula) struggled with her first two batters, but went on a tear from there, fanning 11 Saints by the end of the game to improve to 6-3 for the season. Over one stretch near the middle of the game, Kornegay retired eight straight batters.

Shelby Webb pitched five and a third innings for Limestone to claim the loss and fall to 3-5 for the year.

USC Aiken will enjoy a few days of rest before hitting the road once more, this time traveling to Misenheimer, N.C. to challenge the Falcons of Pfeiffer on Friday, March 18.
