PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team continued to struggle Sunday afternoon, dropping a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on the road to the Braves of the University of North Carolina Pembroke. The Pacers were shut out 1-0 in the first game and then lost 5-3 to the Braves in the second game.

The Pacers are now 9-5 overall and an even 2-2 in league action while UNC Pembroke is now 12-8 overall and an equal 2-2 in the PBC.

The Braves did not pull out the win in the first game until the bottom of the sixth inning when Morgan Patrick homered, giving UNC Pembroke the slight edge they needed for the victory.

India Kornegay (Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula) continued to pitch well despite giving up the home run, striking out eight batters and giving up just two hits to fall to 4-2 for the season.

Natalie Klemann claimed the victory in the circle for UNC Pembroke to improve to an even 2-2.

The Pacers were able to score three runs in the second game to avoid the shutout, but UNC Pembroke's four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning doomed USC Aiken to suffer their season-high fourth loss in a row.

Freshman Brittney Williamson (Lexington, S.C./White Knoll) led the Pacers in the second game scoring twice while Lindsey Jones (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta) scored the only other run for USC Aiken.

Kylee Knop took the loss for USC Aiken to fall to 2-3 for the year while Jamie Burwell claimed her fifth win of the year to improve to 5-2.

The Pacers will return home on Wednesday, March 2 for a doubleheader against another South Atlantic opponent when the Wolves of Newberry prowl into J.H. Satcher Field. The twin bill will commence with the first game at 1 p.m. and the second game following shortly after.
