Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll (Feb. 21)
AIKEN, S.C.- A four-game winning streak and a strong start to the 2011 season has moved the University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team back into the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II Poll at No. 21.
It is one of two top 25 rankings received by the Pacers on Monday as USC Aiken is currently 22nd in the latest College Baseball Lineup top 30.
USC Aiken plays in one of the toughest conferences in all of college baseball and the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll proves it with six Peach Belt Conference teams ranked inside the top 30. Georgia College is the highest ranked PBC team at No. 3 followed closely by North Georgia (seventh).
UNC Pembroke (17th) is just above the Pacers in the latest national tally, while Francis Marion (24th) and Armstrong Atlantic State (28th) round out the PBC teams in the poll.
U.C. San Diego is the No. 1 team in the latest poll with Florida Southern just behind in second.
The 21st-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team concluded last week with a perfect 4-0 record. The Pacers are now 8-2 in 2011.
The Pacers opened the week with a 12-5 win over Newberry on Wednesday, Feb. 16. USC Aiken followed up the win over Newberry with a sweep of Shippensburg.
The Pacers after the Shippensburg sweep have now captured all three of their three-game sets in 2011 with series wins over Lincoln Memorial, Barry and Shippensburg.
The Pacers will next conclude their first month of the 2011 regular season with a three-game set against first-time opponents Salem International at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. Just like all the other three-game sets in February, USC Aiken's first ever meeting with Salem International will get underway at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25. The series will close with single 1 p.m. encounters on Saturday, Feb. 26 and Sunday, Feb. 27.
All three of the games in the series will be able to be followed live on USC Aiken's official athletic website at www.PacerSports.com.
