Pacer Men and Women Drop League Matches to Flagler

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken tennis teams were unable to pick up their first Peach Belt Conference victories of the 2011 season against Flagler on Saturday at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex.

In a battle of top 25 teams, the 25th-ranked USC Aiken men (2-3, 0-2 PBC) were unable to upset the 17th-ranked Flagler men (1-0, 1-0 PBC) in an 8-1 loss.

The USC Aiken women (3-4, 0-2 PBC) fell short in their upset bid of 16th-ranked Flager (1-1, 1-0 PBC), falling 9-0.

USC Aiken's lone point on the day came at No. 3 doubles with the tandem of Juan Manuel Guglielmeti (Mar del Plata, Argentina/Instituto Albert Einstein) and Lucas Gobbi (Santa Bárbara d'Oeste, Brazil/Colegio Politec) besting Flagler's Peter Coulis and Adam Hunt, 8-4.

The Pacer women came close to picking up a win at No. 1 singles as Stephanie Humphrey (Harpenden, England/Sir John Lawes) nearly upset regionally-ranked Lauren Pfeiffer.

Pfeiffer in the end was able to secure a hard-fought 6-2, 5-7, 10-7 victory.

The Pacer men and women return to action on Sunday in Columbia, S.C. for an 11 a.m. match against Benedict at the Southeast Park Tennis Complex.
