AUGUSTA, Ga. – The nationally-ranked University of South
Carolina Aiken baseball team picked up two of the three weekly
Peach Belt Conference baseball awards on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
USC Aiken shortstop Stephen Carmon was chosen as the league
Player of the Week, while Pacer freshman third baseman Spencer
Wolfe was tabbed as the conference Freshman of the Week.
A junior from Camden, S.C., Carmon hit .571 in USC Aiken's
2-1 series victory over No. 29 Barry. Carmon concluded the series
win with a 1.000 slugging percentage.
Carmon had three extra-base knocks on the week on a double, a
triple and a home run.
Carmon assured USC Aiken of the series win by hitting a two-run
game-winning home run in the bottom of the 13th inning
in USC Aiken's 8-6 game two victory over Barry. Carmon was
5-for-7 in the game with four RBIs.
The Camden High School product struck out just once in 14
at-bats in the series and stole two bases.
Carmon is currently seventh in the PBC in slugging. He is
presently third in the conference in steals, fifth in the league in
total bases and he is tied for the league lead in triples.
Wolfe made two starts in USC Aiken's series win over
Barry. He came in as a defensive substitution in game one.
In the series, Wolfe hit .500 (4-for-8). He collected two hits
in each of the final two games of the series, while also scoring a
run. He had an on-base percentage of .545.
The nationally-ranked Pacers will next play their first mid-week
contest of the 2011 season against in-state rival Newberry at 4
p.m. at the 'Bert on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
