AIKEN, S.C. – Stephen Carmon belted a game-winning home run in the 13th inning to lead the 30th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team to a 8-6 victory over 29th-ranked Barry on Saturday afternoon at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
The score tied 6-6 in the bottom of the 13th, USC Aiken (4-1) got things in the bottom half of the extra frame with Stephen Bellantoni (Oviedo, Fla. /Lake Sumter CC) reaching base on an infield single.
Carmon (Camden, S.C./Camden) then concluded an unbelievable day at the plate by blasting the two-run tater over the right field fence.
The win on Saturday afternoon assured USC Aiken of its second consecutive three-game series regardless of the outcome of the three-game series finale on Sunday.
USC Aiken, who took two of three from Lincoln Memorial last weekend at the 'Bert, will conclude its series with Barry with a 12 p.m. game on Sunday.
Carmon ended Saturday's extra-inning win 5-for-7 from the plate. He had four RBIs and scored two runs.
Bellantoni was 4-for-7 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Josh Miller (Chapin, S.C./Chapin) and Spencer Wolfe (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) also had multiple hits in the game with each recording two. Miller had an RBI, while Wolfe scored a run.
USC Aiken out-hit the Buccaneers 15-12 in total in the 13-inning affair.
Barry was led in its second straight loss to the Pacers by Dean Green, who was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
