Pacer Men Unable to Overcome Bobcats on Homecoming

Box Score

AIKEN, S.C. – With two seconds left in regulation, the ball left Byron Faison's fingertips but banked off the rim as time expired in the University of South Carolina Aiken's 66-64 loss to Peach Belt Conference foe Georgia College in league action Saturday night at the Convocation Center.

The loss drops the Pacer men to 13-9 (7-8 PBC) while the Bobcats improve to 13-8 (7-6 PBC) for the 2010-11 season.

Down by eight after intermission, Jesse Seilern nailed his opening three-pointer from the left corner to try to spark a USC Aiken come-back.

The Pacers would battle from there to take the lead in the contest, going up by one about five minutes later off another trey by Seilern.

USC Aiken extended its lead to three just under a minute later as Alvin Brown slammed home a thundering alley-oop dunk off an assist from Sterling Council. The lead would be the last of the evening for the Pacers as they would relinquish the lead a few minutes later to a Nate Hamilton three pointer.

The Bobcats would go up by as many as six two times over the closing moments of the contest as the Pacers struggled to keep pace.

With just over a minute left, Georgia College's lead was five after another Hamilton fade-away jumper.

Council kept the Pacers' hopes of victory alive as he drilled a three-pointer with 41 seconds remaining, but USC Aiken would not be able to overcome the two-point deficit as Faison's last second trey just missed its mark.

As a team, the Pacers shot 40.4 percent (23-57) from the field, but the Bobcats were lethal from beyond the arc as they hit on 47.1 percent (8-17) of their attempts from three-point range.

USC Aiken had two players in double-figures as Council (Camden, S.C./Camden) led the way with 17 points with Alvin Brown (Fort Washington, Md./James Madison) close behind with 12 points to go along with eight rebounds and four blocks. Seilern (Innsbruk, Austria/Kapfenberg) was not too far behind Brown as he tallied nine points in USC Aiken's effort.

Hamilton was the leading scorer in the game as he hit eight of his 11 shots to tally 24 points. Seven of his shots came from three-point range as he was a lethal 7-for-9 from beyond the arc.

Jared Holmes, Reece Wiedeman and Josh Hurst were the final Bobcats in double-figures with 15, 13 and 11 points respectively.

USC Aiken will now go on the road for a two-game road trip that spans two states before returning home for their final contest of the 2010-11 regular season. The Pacers will first head up to Pembroke, N.C. on Wednesday, Feb. 16 for a PBC doubleheader against the Braves of UNC Pembroke. The women will tipoff at 5:30 p.m. before the men take to the court shortly after the conclusion of that game at approximately 7:30 p.m.
