QUERETARO, Mexico – Former University of South Carolina
Aiken golf standout Roberto Diaz was recently named the 2010 Rookie
of the Year in the Professional Golf Association of Mexico
(PGAM).
Diaz just missed this past week on winning the Tour Negra Modelo
championship, falling in a playoff to Jose Trauwitz. The event was
played at the Country Club of Queretaro.
Both Diaz and Trauwitz finished the event 10-under par, but
Trauwitz bested Diaz on the second playoff hole.
Diaz concluded the 2010 PGAM season 20th on the
points list.
A four-time All-America selection, Diaz (2005-09) concluded his
time at USC Aiken as the all-time scoring leader in school history
with a 72.97 scoring average in 130 rounds.
Diaz has two professional victories currently, having won the
NGA Hooters Professional Golf Tour Winter Series Myrtle Beach
National-West Course event in November of 2010 and the NGA Hooters
Professional Golf Tour Carolina Summer Series Tidewater Golf Club
event in August of 2010.
