16th-Ranked Pacers Best Anderson in Overtime to Win Eighth Straight

ANDERSON, S.C. – The nationally 16th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team needed overtime, but the Pacers were nevertheless able to pull out their eighth straight win in a 59-53 road victory over Anderson on Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center.

The Pacers have now beaten Anderson (5-5) twice over the course of the last week as they also bested the Trojans, 71-63, on Monday, Dec. 12 at the Convocation Center in Aiken, S.C.

USC Aiken enters its holiday breaking owning a 9-1 record (2-0 PBC). 

In a game that featured 11 lead changes and seven ties, Anderson led by seven points at 49-42 after a Amanda Parris lay-up with 4:27 remaining in regulation.

The Trojans would not score again as USC Aiken would close regulation on a 7-0 run to send the game into overtime.

Kayla Harris (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) scored the first four points of the stretch for USC Aiken before Lindsay Sundberg (Mansfield, Conn./E.O. Smith) nailed a 3-pointer with 44 seconds left to knot the game at 49-all.

Both teams had a chance to take the lead over the final seconds, but neither team was able to convert.

USC Aiken dominated the overtime period, outscoring Anderson, 10-4. 

Harris led all players in the game with 18 points and 10 rebounds. It was her second double-double of the 2011-12 season. Harris also had two steals.

Brittany Hill (Mechanicsville, Va./Quinnipiac) was the only other Pacer in double figures with 10 points. She also had four rebounds, three steals, a block and an assist. Hill, who played in every minute in the game, was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Anderson had three players in double figures with Sierra Simpson leading the way with 15 points. Anderson's Breonda Shannon ended her day with a double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 points.

USC Aiken finished the win over Anderson shooting 37.9 percent (22-for-58) as a team. Anderson shot 37.3 percent (19-for-51) as a team.

Both teams were strong from the free throw line where USC Aiken was 12 of 16 in the game (75 percent). Anderson missed just one free throw, going 13-for-14 (92.9 percent).

USC Aiken next opens the month of January by diving head first into Peach Belt Conference action. The Pacers will commence the month on the road against Francis Marion in Florence, S.C. at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4.
