Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The nationally 18th-ranked
University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team never
trailed in a 90-49 win over Flagler on Saturday afternoon at the
Convocation Center.
The resounding win came in USC Aiken's 2011-12 Peach Belt
Conference opener.
USC Aiken (6-1, 1-0 PBC) finished the dominating win over
Flagler (1-6, 0-2 PBC) shooting 52 percent (39-for-75) as a team.
USC Aiken's sweltering defense held the Saints to just 35.6 percent
(21-for-59) shooting as a team.
The Pacers only had to take six free throws in the contest, but
they missed just one (5-for-6). Flagler connected upon just 50
percent (4-of-8) of their attempts from the charity stripe.
Four Pacers finished in double figures in the victory with Hannah
DeGraffinreed and Daniela Tarailo
tying for game-high honors with each posting 18 in the
game.
DeGraffinreed (Raleigh, N.C. /Merrimack College) also had six
rebounds, two steals, one assist and a block. Tarailo (Crown Point,
Ind./Crown Point) was 7-for-13 from the floor en route to the 18
points. She acquired eight rebounds with half of her caroms coming
on the offensive glass. She also had three assists and a steal.
Kayla
Harris (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) was also 7-for-13 from the
floor. She finished with three rebounds and two assists.
Lindsay
Sundberg (Mansfield, Conn./E.O. Smith) was the final Pacer in
double figures with 10 points. She just missed on a double-double
of her own with eight rebounds.
Brittany Hill did not score in double figures in the
game, but she did finish with 11 assists. As a team, the Pacers
recorded 28 assists.
Flagler had two players in double figures with Taye'Lor Trotter
leading the way with 16 points. Latesha Johnson chipped in with 12
points and six rebounds.
The Saints were able to keep the game close through the first
four minutes with the game tied at 8-8 with 16:32 left in the first
stanza. The Pacers would then close the half on a 35-17 run to own
a 43-25 lead at intermission.
The Pacers out-scored Flagler, 47-24, in the second half.
USC Aiken has little to rest with the Pacers next welcoming
Anderson to the Convocation Center for a game at 7 p.m. on Monday,
Dec. 12.
