Hubbard's Double-Double Helps Pacers to 23-Point Win Over Allen

AIKEN, S.C. – Maurice Hubbard acquired his first double-double as a Pacer and the University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team emerged with a 79-56 win over Allen on Thursday evening at the Convocation Center.

Hubbard (Centreville,Va./Ball State) ended USC Aiken's 23-point victory over Allen with 11 points and 10 boards. Hubbard collected four of his 10 rebounds on the offensive glass. Hubbard, who was 5-for-6 from the field, also obtained two blocks and two steals.

Four Pacers secured double figures in total with Sterling Council (Camden, S.C./Camden) leading the way with a team-high 17 points. Council shot 50 percent (6-for-12) from the field and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. He also had five assists and two steals. 

USC Aiken's Chase Holmes (Chesnee, S.C./Presbyterian) was 6-for-8 from the field en route to 16 points, while Jeremiah Pojah (Houston, Texas/East Texas Baptist) was the final Pacer in double figures with 11. He also nabbed five rebounds. He was 5-for-6 from the floor in the Pacer win.

Pacer starting point guard Re'mon Nelson (Columbus, Ohio/Canal Winchester) did not score Thursday, but he did manage to finish the Pacer win with a game-high seven assists to go along with a team-best three steals.

USC Aiken ended Thursday's win shooting 47 percent (31-for-66) as a team. Allen knocked down 45.3 percent (24-for-53) of its shots as a team in the contest.

Allen's Jeremy Crawford led all scorers in the game with 20. Crawford was 10-for-11 from the field in the game. Richard Johnson was the only other Yellow Jacket in double figures in the game, finishing with 17. 

USC Aiken commenced its win over Allen by racing out to a 13-3 lead through the first five and a half minutes. 

The lead would not last long with Allen taking an 18-17 advantage with 9:27 left in the first half.

It was at this point that the Pacers took the game over. USC Aiken would hold the Yellow Jackets scoreless for the next six minutes, going on a 20-0 run during the stretch to take a 37-18 lead with 3:17 to go until the halftime break.

The two teams would enter intermission with USC Aiken owning a 39-23 lead.

USC Aiken never pulled off the brakes in the second half, going up by as many as 28 with 3:17 left in the game before acquiring its second straight win by over 20 points. The Pacers had last bested Mars Hill, 96-72, on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

USC Aiken will next welcome national No. 10 Benedict to the Convocation Center at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3. The Pacers own a 4-3 all-time series lead over Benedict, having won the last three in the series.
