AUGUSTA, Ga. – Five University of South Carolina Aiken
men's soccer players were named to the 2011 Peach Belt
Conference Men's Soccer All-Academic Team.
The announcement came from the league office in Augusta, Ga. on
Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011.
The five Pacers honored for their achievements on the playing
field and in the classroom were Chinedu Arinze, Scott Berry,
Michael Poole, Jack Reynolds and Kofi Trim. Schevon Joseph was
named Honorable Mention.
Arinze was just recently named to the Peach Belt Conference
Men's Soccer All-Conference First-Team as a defender.
Arinze concluded his junior season by starting in 14 of USC
Aiken's matches. He was tied for second among all Pacers in
the 2011 season with six points on two goals and two assists.
The junior defender scored his first goal of the year in USC
Aiken's 4-1 win over Pfeiffer on Sept. 2. He also scored in
USC Aiken's 2-2 tie with St. Andrews on Oct. 26.
Arinze (Stone Mountain, Ga./Georgia State) picked up the assist in
USC Aiken's 1-1 ties with Lenoir-Rhyne and UNC
Pembroke.
In the classroom, Arinze boasts a 3.63 grade point average as a
Business Administration major.
Berry's honoring marks his second academic honor of the
offseason. He was also recently selected to the Capital One
All-Academic NCAA Division II Men's Soccer District Three
First-Team.
A sophomore out of Evans, Ga., Berry played in seven matches for
the Pacers in the 2011 season. The Augusta Christian product
finished the year with one shot on goal.
In the classroom, Berry is still undeclared, but he currently
maintains a perfect 4.00 grade point average.
A junior, Poole (Aiken, S.C./South Aiken) played in 13 matches
for the Pacers in the 2011 season, starting six. The defender
finished the year with four shots on goal.
In the classroom, Poole owns a 3.69 grade point average as a
Biology major.
Reynolds (Cumming, Ga./North Forsyth) saw action in 12 matches
for the Pacers in 2011. He made three starts on the year.
In the classroom, the sophomore owns a 3.65 grade point average
as a Political Science major.
A senior, Trim (San Juan, Trinidad/Lewis) started in 10 matches
for the Pacers in the 2011 season. He played in 13 in total. He
ended the year with one shot.
In the classroom, Trim boasts a 3.83 grade point average as a
Business Administration major.
Joseph (Gouyave, Grenada/TA Marryshow) owns a 3.34 grade point
average as a Math and Computer Science major.
The Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer All-Academic Team
is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding
accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as
on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a
student-athlete must have 1) participated in at least half of
his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant
contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on
a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at
his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports
Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 30 NCAA
Division II National Championships. The league features 13 member
institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida
and Alabama that compete in 13 championship sports. The 2011-12
members are Augusta State University, Armstrong Atlantic State
University, Clayton State University, Columbus State University,
Flagler College, Francis Marion University, Georgia College,
Georgia Southwestern State University, Lander University,
University of Montevallo, North Georgia College & State
University, University of North Carolina at Pembroke and the
University of South Carolina Aiken.
