Pacers End Season With 3-2 Loss to Augusta State in PBC Tournament

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team ended its 2011 season with a 3-2 (18-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 16-14) loss to Augusta State in the quarterfinals of the Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Championships on Friday evening at the Christenberry Fieldhouse.

The Pacers opened the match by racing out to a 25-18 victory in the first set. In game two, Augusta State was able to obtain a narrow 25-23 win.

The third set saw the Pacers turn the tables and garner a 25-23 win of their own. In the fourth set, Augusta State went on a late charge to take a 25-21 victory to force a decisive fifth set.

In the fifth set, USC Aiken had a chance to close things out at 14-13, but Augusta State scored the final three points in the match to take a 16-14 victory in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament thriller.

USC Aiken finished the match hitting .209. The Jaguars hit .200 as a team in the match. The Pacers owned a 9-6 total team block advantage in the match.

Endea Ellison (Orange Park, Fla./Episcopal) and Emily Maassen (Ellisville, Mo./Marquette) led four Pacers in double-digit kills with each posting 13. Maassen also had four blocks.

Susan MacClary (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) finished her final match as a Pacer with 12 kills. Shannon Byers (Morristown, Minn./Faribault) netted 10 kills along with 18 digs to claim her 16th double-double of the year.

Samantha Lukralle (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) recorded a match-high 29 digs, while Claire Patten (Boulder, Colo. /Mercer) finished the match with 13 digs.

Both Alex Petock (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) and Sheila Walsh (Fort Mill, S.C./Nation Ford) acquired 21 assists in the match for USC Aiken.

Augusta State's Alex Rohlfing led all in the match with 23 kills. Augusta State (16-18) setter Krystin Wahlig ended the match with a double-double with 48 assists and 12 digs.

Regionally 10th-ranked USC Aiken concludes its 2011 season with a 15-16 record.
